Prevent Skin Dryness During Winter
The top layer of your skin has the natural power to prevent itself from dryness. But when you get exposed to cold climate, low humidity and cold winds, this top layer gets depleted and causes dryness. Also, during winter season, dry air from the various room heating sources will suck out the moisture of the skin leaving it rough and dry. So if you want to keep your soft and smooth even in cold climate, it is essential, not to add moisture to your skin, but to lock the moisture from getting sucked out. Here are certain skin care tips to prevent your skin from losing its moistness and getting rough.
During winter, it is better to avoid, or at least reduce the intake of alcohol and caffeine. They both will get you dehydrated by reducing the water content of your body through urination, leaving your skin rough and dry. Smoking also does the same to your skin. If you don’t want to quit smoking and drinking, you need to drink at least two liters of water a day. It’s difficult to drink that much of water when you are in a cold weather, but for the sake of your skin care, keeps your body hydrated.
Taking a warm shower during a cold weather is good if it is a short bath. Exposing your skin to long hot baths can lead to skin dehydration. While taking a bath, first pour water on your body till you are fully wet and then add one tablespoon of olive oil, hazelnut oil or almond oil to the water. Continue bathing with this oily water. This helps your body to absorb the moisture and lock it under your skin. Wash your face before going to sleep and apply a bit an herbal facial once you get up in the morning. This prevents your skin from getting dry at night and also early in the morning.
When your skin is forced to get exposed to the sun, heat, wind, cold air or dry air, apply a light moisturizer on your face, neck, hands and feet. This helps your skin to get refreshed and stay hydrated.
When considering good skin care soaps, go for soap free shower gel, soap free face wash or a moisturizing soap which acts as good cleansers during cold climate. Include Essential Fatty Acids in your diet which can work wonders on your skin to make it charming. Use good humidifiers in your home or office room during winter. They can maintain the humidity level of the room very well.
